On the passing of Colby Cave

    April 11, 2020

A message from Jim Davis, Hockey Ministries International Chaplain for the Providence Bruins

It is hard to put into words how one life can have such an impact on us. Today in the already shaken world of Covid-19 the hockey world was rocked even harder by the news of our friend, teammate, and colleague Colby Cave’s sudden death.

With tear filled eyes I think of the privilege I had in knowing Colby when he came to chapel as a member of the Providence Bruins.  Flavia Weedn said “Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for a while, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never, ever the same.”

Each of our lives have been touched by Colby in a way that we will remember for a life time.  Colby was a man of integrity with a strong work ethic both on and off the ice. He displayed a quiet strength and an attitude of whatever it takes to get it done.

The attribute I will remember most about Colby was his faith in Jesus Christ. Tomorrow Colby will be celebrating his first Easter Sunday in heaven. The Bible says in the Gospel of John, “Jesus said I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.”

Then Jesus asked do you believe this. That is a question we all must ask for faith is a personal belief in God’s grace offered to us all.

To Emily and the entire Cave family we wish we had the words to share at this time, but we want you to know that you are not alone and we want to support you all now and in the days to come.   Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. He is the Father who is full of mercy, the God of all comfort. He comforts us every time we have trouble so that when others have trouble, we can comfort them with the same comfort God gives us.

On behalf of myself, Hockey Ministries International, and the Hockey World we offer are heart felt condolence, love, and support.
