Charity Status

Hockey Ministries International is a federally registered charitable organization in Canada and in the United States with 501(c)(3) status. The organization is a member of the Canadian Council of Christian Charities and is governed by a Board of Directors. Current board members are: Chairman; Ralph Loader, Montreal; David Booth, Detroit; Michelle Li, Montreal; Paul McKechnie, Ottawa; Jim Nill, Dallas; Dan Seekings, Ottawa; and Dr. Bill Shaw, Saint John. Don Liesemer has been President since HMI’s beginning in 1977.

Over 900 volunteers serve by providing leadership on the board, participating in camps, conducting chapel programs, organizing events, developing Christian resource materials and working on regional committees.

As a charitable organization we operate our hockey chapel program as a free service to thousands of players each year. This is possible because of the many volunteer chaplains and financial supporters. Our Christian Hockey Camps operate on break even budgets, as we are committed to keeping our camp fees affordable to allow more families to send their kids to camp. Camp fees cover basic costs like ice-time, lodging, food, transport and insurance. Our camp sponsorship program assists hundreds of families in need. We also provide free Hockey New Testaments and resources to thousands of players.
