Power skating, on-ice puck touches, line rushes, defensive zone breakouts, offensive forechecks, special teams systems, and many more areas of on-ice training are required for hockey players to become hockey teams. With agility, strength, power, hand-eye coordination, and injury prevention there is no shortage of off-ice training for hockey players as well. And we must not forget about proper recovery and nutrition!
Yet, we are reminded in 1 Timothy 4:8, "Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come." As athletes, we know the benefits of being physically fit. We also know this is only temporary. Training ourselves to be godly is training with an eternal perspective. Godly training not only makes us spiritually fit for this life, but helps us grow muscles of faith which sustain us through eternity as well. Some of the ways we train ourselves is by attending Church, prayer, fellowship, worship, and reading God's word the Bible. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says ... "All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work."
With this kind of training in mind, Hockey Ministries International has created a mobile app built specifically for the spiritual training of the hockey community. It is available on all Apple and Android devices to help the busiest of hockey players, coaches, fans, and family members train to be Godly. The app features "Impact Verses' where past and current players from Pro, College, and Jr. hockey share Scripture that is impacting their lives. "Weekly Challenges' written by HMI staff members, are thought-provoking devotionals to encourage a deeper faith in Christ and challenge the reader with ways to become a better Christian hockey player. With links to HMI videos, Home Ice articles, and abundant information on our Camp and Chapel programs, there is no shortage of content available for free on the HMI mobile app.
We thoroughly hope and pray that between bag skates, squats, and shots you will spend time training in godliness. May our Hockey Ministries mobile app be an accessible tool to help you do so.
